After applying the firmware update 1.10 master and headphone level can be adjusted independently.

You can verify the firmware version in the control panel of your MR816SX/X:
Mac OS X: Apple menu / System Preferences... / Yamaha Steinberg FW
Windows: Start menu / Control Panel / Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver
The firmware version is listed under 'Main:' on the tab 'MR816X' resp. 'MR816CSX'. For more detailed information please refer to the instructions enclosed to the firmware update.

Separate Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver update as part of the TOOLS for MR package for Mac OS X. Please install the TOOLS for MR first followed by the driver update below!

This update fixed a problem in which a 'Failed to initialize' message appeared on Mac systems having no FireWire ports (e.g. MacBook Pro with Retina display).
