To keep your Mac's data from getting corrupted by a beta operating system, you can partition your Mac's hard drive to run macOS High Sierra in tandem with your current operating system. Create a partition on your Mac if you haven't already done so.
The problem is, the OS X Finder as of Public Beta is still predominantly non-spatial. Even with all the classic-like options enabled, the behavior is still not even close to the spatial orientation of the classic Mac OS Finder. Windows try to remember their view modes and screen positions, but this feature is easily, frequently, and often accidentally defeated through the use of basic Finder functionality. For example, the folder hierarchy pop-up menu and the back button in the Finder toolbar always replace the contents of the current window when used, regardless of your preference settings for the double-click behavior. An example scenario:
This is but one of the many confusing, spatially inconsistent scenarios that is possible with the OS X Finder. I was tempted to just chalk it up to understandable beta bugs, but the unavoidable question is this: how is it supposed to work then? The combination of in-place browser-style functions and the totally new concept of creating a 'New Finder Window' (which is incidentally bound to command-n, destroying 16 years worth of muscle memory in the millions of Mac users who expect that sequence to create a new folder) necessarily compromises the spatial nature of the Finder.
Again, that's not necessarily a bad thing, provided this time-tested and heavily evolved functional interface is replaced with something better (it's not enough just to equal the old interface since a shift in something as fundamental as the Finder had better be worth throwing away almost two decades of familiarity for.)
Unfortunately, the OS X Finder as it exists in Public Beta does not achieve this goal. Worse, it not only removes all the evolutionary additions to the classic spatial Finder (pop-up tabbed folders, spring-loaded folders, etc.), it entirely compromises the spatial metaphor itself. Just imagine if that folded newspaper you put on the corner of your desk wasn't there a few hours later, or was there but unfolded, or was under your chair. You'd start to think someone was toying with you, or maybe that you're going senile. For a spatially oriented system to be effective, it must be absolutely consistent.
Replacing the spatial Finder is OS X Beta is an extremely limited browser interface that has an entire problem set of its own.
Even within the realm of the limited spatially oriented features of the new Finder, there are more problems to be found. The most glaring is the insane minimum window size discussed earlier. It makes common window aspect ratios impossible, primarily the 'tall, skinny list-view window' and the 'wide, thin icon-view window,' both of which are often left open and used as quick-access points by Mac OS 9 users. (More on quick-access points in Mac OS X later.) There's also the excessively wide, unadjustable icon grid spacing, and the inability to toggle grid behavior on a per-drag basis via a modifier key (although these may just be beta bugs and/or unimplemented features.)
Solutions:Either create a non-spatial Finder so intuitive, efficient, and powerful that we'll all forget about the classic Mac OS Finder, or be sure to implement all of the spatial features of the classic Finder in OS X. Guess which one of those options I think is the easiest to accomplish. People have been trying to out-do the classic spatial Finder for years with little success. It doesn't appear that Apple is doing any better so far.In my opinion, Apple should stick to the old spatial metaphor, at least in the short term during the transition to Mac OS X. Bruce Tognazzini sums it uplike this:With the Mac, you have always had the power to move around and organize applications and documents in your own virtual space, maintaining a neat or cluttered workspace, as is your habit. Other desktop systems, from Windows to Unix, have depended more on abstraction, forcing users to remember the location of objects in complex hierarchies. In theory, all of this reduced clutter, but it really only moved the clutter from the visible desktop to the back of your mind. Since most of us work better with visible clutter than with rote memorization, our efficiency drops.
The next problem involves the columns themselves: they're not resizable. Well, they do expand and shrink as the window size changes, but they do so in unison, and when they reach certain widths the number of columns either increases or decreases (to a minimum of 2) depending on whether the window is getting smaller or larger. This system assumes that every column of information needs the same width as every other column, which is not the case in practice. The maximum width of the columns is also too narrow for 'long' file names (greater than 30 characters or so) which seems silly considering that one of Mac OS X's touted features is support for 255 character file names.
Finally, the only column sorting choice is alphabetical. I don't think I've ever seen a list-like view in a file navigation application that wasn't able to be sorted based on more than one criterion.
Solutions: Make the buttons in the toolbar customizable on a per-directory basis, make the column widths independently resizable, add the usual sorting choices, and include a setting to define the maximum column width before columns multiply and the minimum column width before columns disappear.

Explanation: Font sizes in the Finder are not adjustable. This is especially vexing in list-view windows. The default font size is considerably larger than that found in classic Mac OS. This in and of itself is actually a good idea. Screen resolutions have increased over time, and 10-point Geneva (the Mac OS 9 default) may be too small for a lot of users on a modern 1024x768 or larger monitor. But advanced users typically want to jam the most information possible into every corner of the screen. The new, larger default font does not allow nearly as many visible characters in a given screen area.
Solutions: Make font sizes adjustable.
9. The Finder's popup-menus are not friendly
Explanation: In the screenshot above you can see the potition of the menu that pops up when the highlighted area of the Finder's toolbar pop-up menu widget is clicked. It's about an inch from the cursor, which is much too far away in my opinion. Obviously that pop-up menu doesn't need to be as wide as it is.
Solutions: Make pop-up menus only as wide as they need to be to promote easier operation.

macOS High Sierra is the next version of the Mac operating system. The final version will be available this fall. Apple is making a public beta version available for people to try out, test against their favorite software, and report bugs to the company.
Since this is beta software, there’s a good chance it could cause problems on your Mac. You may encounter frequent freezes and crashes, or your apps may not work.
We advise against installing the beta on a production Mac or any other Mac you depend on and need to keep running. If you’re worried that a beta flaw will prevent you from using your Mac, don’t install it.
However, if you do decide to try the beta, you can provide Apple with valuable feedback. Install it on a Mac that you consider a secondary computer.
Back up your Mac. You can use Time Machine or whatever backup setup you already have. You need a backup you can use that you can revert to in case you need to stop using the beta and need to restore your system.
