These advanced steps are primarily for system administrators and others who are familiar with the command line. Be careful when you change file permissions and umasks. If you make a mistake, you can lower the security of files, folders, or apps on your Mac, or prevent apps from working.
Permissions. Every file, folder, and app stored on your Mac has permission settings, which determine which user accounts can read, write to, or run the file, folder, or app. These permissions include POSIX permissions and Access Control Lists (ACLs). To make a user’s POSIX permissions more restrictive or less restrictive, you can adjust their umask value.
Apple Partition Map (APM) is a partition scheme used to define the low-level organization of data on disks formatted for use with 68k and PowerPC Macintosh computers. It was introduced with the Macintosh II. Disks using the Apple Partition Map are divided into logical blocks, with 512 bytes usually belonging to each block.The first block, Block 0, contains an Apple-specific data structure.
Umasks. A three-digit number can represent the POSIX permissions for a file. You might see permissions represented this way when you view them from Terminal. Each digit is between 0 and 7. When you create a file, the umask value is subtracted from a default value (usually 666 for files and 777 for folders) to determine the permissions for the new file or folder. For example, a default umask of 022 sets permissions of 644 on new files and 755 on new folders.
You can set the umask in several locations, and each location affects different apps. If you set an umask incorrectly, you might lose access to files or grant access to other users. See the MODES section of the chmod(1)
manual page for more information.
Log in as an administrator and enter the following command in Terminal, replacing nnn
with the umask value, such as 027 or 002. This command sets the user's umask for every app they open, including apps they access from the command line and new files that those apps create. After entering this command, you might need to restart your Mac.
If Terminal responds ”Could not write configuration: No such file or directory,” make sure that your startup disk has a folder at /private/var/db/com.apple.xpc.launchd/config. If the config folder is missing, try again after entering the following command to create it:

iPhone has featured the Health app since iOS 8, but the app has never been expanded to other devices in all those years. Although there are no rumors on the Health app being available on more platforms, developer and designer Jordan Singer has created a new concept that imagines a macOS version of the app.
The Health app on macOS would provide easy access to the user’s health information, according to Singer’s concept. It has the same cards style as the iOS app, but the Health Categories are all shown in the app sidebar instead of a dedicated menu like on the iPhone.
The app interface is designed to be more familiar to Mac users, with the translucent sidebar and smaller items ready for the mouse pointer. But what’s most impressive is that the concept is not just an image, but a real experience built with SwiftUI.
For those unfamiliar with SwiftUI, it allows developers to create the interface of an app in an intuitive and universal way so that it’s ready to run on iOS, macOS, tvOS, and even watchOS.
While there’s not much to talk about the Health app since it would be the same as on the iPhone, we can discuss why it’s not yet available on the iPad and even the Mac. It’s understandable that the Health app was released only for iPhone in 2014 as the smartphone is the primary device for most people, but such data should be available anywhere now.
Personally, I work with my Mac most of the day, and it’s quite annoying not being able to check my health information directly on my computer. The same applies to the iPad, not to mention users who have only one of these devices and not an iPhone.
With Apple bringing more apps from iOS to macOS every year through Catalyst technology, I expect the Health app to be one of the next ones.
